The Alpha Industries Brand

Alpha Industries began manufacturing military clothing in 1959 in a rented factory in Knoxville, Tennessee. Alpha's excellent quality quickly gained a good reputation with the US Department of Defense. The good reputation also spread to the civilian population, driven by youth subcultures. Thus, the brand became a streetwear style element: a special look outside the normal world of private labels. 

Alpha's fame was built on some key designs, such as the MA-1 bomber jacket - the classic US Air Force flight jacket for over 50 years. Designed for use in cold weather, it came in Indian orange with high visibility for use in emergencies. 

The MA-1 jacket has been adapted by designers since the 1980s. Another popular icon is the M-65 jacket, which became a basic American field jacket in 1965. It became famous during the Vietnam War. Not only because it was worn by soldiers - peace demonstrators also enjoyed the jacket. It was shown in countless films and worn, for example, by Robert De Niro in "Taxi Driver". 

But how does a uniform become a symbol of individuality? It's up to you. The way hippies, punks and fashionistas wear and combine their alpha jackets makes them your look.
